Gail C. (Fisher) Calhoun, 80, of Dutch Hollow Road, Jersey Shore passed away Saturday, August 6, 2016 at the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. Born in Bellefonte, July 30, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Sarah Fisher. Gail married Thomas L. Calhoun on August 18, 1957; together they shared 51 years of marriage before his passing on May 6, 2009.
Gail graduated from the Bellefonte High School in 1953 and went on to get her degree in education from the Lock Haven State Teachers College now known as Lock Haven University. She taught reading classes and retired from the Jersey Shore Area School District after 35 years of service. In the past few years, she worked as an usher at the Williamsport Community Arts Center. Gail was well known for teaching basket weaving classes in her home and many people throughout the area have baskets that were made under her close supervision. She was a member of Avis United Methodist church where she was very active in the church choir. Gail loved to travel the world and she and her husband had taken 19 cruises and also visited Disney World several times. Gail will be remembered as a patient, caring, energetic, strong willed lady who was a very devoted wife and mother. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandson.
Gail is survived by a son, Gordon (Julie) Calhoun of Hughesville, one granddaughter Avery Calhoun and two- step-grand daughters, Ashley and Molley Mahaffey and one great grandson, Bentley.
Besides, her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a sister, M. Lorraine and three brothers, Nelson, Mark, Ivan.
Family and Friends are invited to a visitation, Wednesday, August 10, 2016 from 6-8 pm at Rearick-Carpenter Funeral Home, 1002 Allegheny Street, Jersey Shore. Funeral services will be held at 10 am, Thursday, August 11, 2016 at the Avis United Methodist Church 215 Prospect Avenue, Avis, with Pastor Joe Hopkins officiating.
