Dorothy L. Young

Dorothy L. Young, 84, of Jersey Shore, passed away at her home, Sat. December 9, 2017, surrounded by her loving family.  She was born in Lock Haven, Feb. 11, 1933, the daughter of Wilber “Earl” Welch and Eva (Bowmaster) Welch Scheesley.

On Feb. 12, 1949, one day after turning 16 Dorothy, married her sweetheart, Robert Young, the two of them have been blessed with 68 happy years together.  Together they operated Lucky Seven Meats in Lock Haven for 37 years; Dorothy retired from the family business in 2010.  She was a lifetime member of the First Baptist Church until it closed; she had been attending at Phelps Chapel Church afterward.  In the 60’s and 70’s she had been the Secretary for the Jersey Shore Booster Club.  Dorothy was the best wife, mother and grandmother any family could ever ask for and she made her life all about her family.

Dorothy is survived by her husband, Robert, three sons, Robert J. Young (Leigh) of Mill Hall, Raymond S. Young (Kris) of Alabama, David W. Young (Tammy) of Lock Haven; three daughters Cynthia Mae Dauberman, of Avis, Dotty J.  Lupold (John) of South Avis, Kim W. Shaffer (Larry) of Waterville; 17 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and 14 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Sandra Young, of Jersey Shore and Helen Jane Bartley, of Loganton.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her stepfather, Raymond Scheesley, one brother, Wilbur Welsh and two sisters, Carol Shaw and Rae June Shoemaker.

Services will begin with a visitation 10 – 11:30 am followed by the funeral at 11:30 am on Wednesday December 13, 2017 at the Phelps Chapel Church, 68 Phelps Chapel Road, Jersey Shore with Pastor Cody Phillips officiating.  Burial will be in the Jersey Shore Cemetery.
