Shirley Karstetter Obituary

Shirley J. (Shaffer) Karstetter, 86, of Jersey Shore, passed away peacefully on December 25, 2023, at Jersey Shore Nursing and Rehabilitation. She was born on August 13, 1937, in Jersey Shore, the daughter of the late Leland W. and Gladys G. (Miller) Shaffer.

Shirley dedicated many years of her life to serving her community. She worked for 10 years in the Nippenose Valley Elementary School cafeteria and later served as a bus driver for the Jersey Shore School District for 15 years.

Outside of work, Shirley had a passion for music and was an active member of her husband's band, Bob and the Country Ramblers. She loved country music and enjoyed playing alongside her husband. In her leisure time, Shirley could often be found doing crossword puzzles, camping, or indulging in her creative side through crafting.

Shirley was a faithful member of Walnut Street Baptist Church in Avis, where she found solace and strength in her faith. She was also a member of A.F.M.A., Lion's Club, and the Good Sam Club.

On March 15, 1957, Shirley married the love of her life, Robert B. "Boozer" Karstetter. They shared a beautiful journey together for 66 years until his passing on October 3, 2023. Shirley deeply cherished their time together and their love was an inspiration to all who knew them.

In addition to her husband, Robert, Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, and one sister.

She will be lovingly remembered by her son, Roy Karstetter (Tina), and her daughter, Debbie Henger (Eric). Shirley's memory will also be cherished by her grandchildren: Jasen Brown (Heather), Amber Karichner (James), Joshua Karstetter, Travis Karstetter (Ashley), Tyler Karstetter, Jordan Saulnier (Blake), Dominic Rundio (Jessica), and Garrett Waldman (Autumn). She was a proud great-grandmother to 15 great-grandchildren. Shirley is survived by her sister, Barb Miller (Dale), as well as many nieces and nephews.
