Richard E Barkman

Richard E. Barkman, 87, of Jersey Shore passed away after a short illness at Valley View Rehab & Nursing Center on April 14, 2024.  Born on January 29, 1937 in St. Albans, Queens County, New York to Homer Barkman and Margaret (Fluke) Barkman.  He was a graduate of Jersey Shore High School, Class of 1954.  He served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1958, achieving the rank of staff sergeant. 

He retired from Verizon in 1991.  Richard was a member of the Korean War Veterans of Lycoming County, having served on the Honor Guard for over 20 years.  He was also a member of the VFW Post 7863 DuBoistown and American Legion Post 945.  Richard was preceded in death by two infant daughters, Christine Marie and Jody Lynne and his parents.  He is survived by his wife of 65 years Shirlee S. (Moltz) Barkman, daughters Beth G. Finn of Lock Haven and Sally A. Barkman of Reedsville, PA; grandchildren Chelsey N. Huff of Williamsport and Logan G. Huff of Linden, two great grandchildren Violet B Huff and Amelia D. Huff; and 2 sisters, Erla Rodgers and Maxine Newvine both of Montoursville.

Richard was a dedicated family man that took pride in his family, work, and service to his country.  He truly was loved and respected by all who knew him.

Visitation and Services will be held at the Chapel at Jersey Shore Cemetery, 1103 Locust Street, Jersey Shore on Thursday, April 18, 2024 with visitation from 12:00PM – 1:00PM, Service starting at 1:00PM. Following the service will be full military rites accorded by the Korean War Veterans Honor Guard.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Rearick-Carpenter Funeral Home, 1002 Allegheny Street, Jersey Shore.

In lieu of flowers, Richard and his family would like donations made to Wreaths Across America or the Korean War Veterans Honor Guard.
