Mary Jane Ross Obituary

Mary Jane Ross (Cohick), 92, of Salladasburg went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, May 18, 2022. She was born December 4, 1929 to the late James J. and Ida “Mildred” Cohick (Gohl) in Salladasburg, Pennsylvania.

Mary Jane lived a long and gratifying life which included raising her family, helping to run her family’s business, and contributing to the local and church community. She enjoyed traveling, collecting pigs, and rooting for her favorite teams – the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Pirates. Mary Jane was known as an avid card player and her dance card was always full. She enjoyed good health and the love of her family and friends.

Mary Jane graduated from Jersey Shore High School and was voted “best dancer” by her class. She was married July 29, 1949 to Kenneth L. Ross who preceded her in death on June 21, 1988. Mary Jane spent her career supporting the family business, Cohick’s Trading Post, formerly known as Jim’s Inn, in Salladasburg. She was actively involved in her faith community, a lifelong member of Salladasburg United Methodist Church, a member of the Salladasburg United Methodist Women,and a founding member of the former Jeanette Thomas Sunday School class. She was a contributing member of the Order of Eastern Star and the Salladasburg Cemetery Association.

Mary Jane will be truly missed and forever in the hearts of her family and loved ones. She is survived by her son, Stephen Ross (Beth) and daughter, Sharon Yohe of Salladasburg. Four grandchildren: Stephen Ross Jr., Dane Ross, Ashlee Bucher, and Andrea Melnyk (Michael). Six great-grandchildren: Carissa Miller (Nathan), Madison Bucher, Savanna Ross, Caitlin Ross, Ainsley Melnyk, and Ethan Melnyk. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, siblings – Doris Vanderscors, James (Buddy) Cohick, Shirley K. Forrest, and Robert (Bobby) Cohick, and great-grandson Thaddeus Ross. 

Her family would like to recognize a special caregiver, Doris Hamilton, and the UPMC Hospice team for the gentle and kind comfort they provided to Mary Jane.

The family will hold a private celebration of life ceremony.
