Lenora Stackhouse Obituary

Lenora Jean Stackhouse, died March 9, 2024 at the UPMC Hospital, Williamsport, PA.  She was born Jan. 30, 1931 near Roaring Branch, PA to Loren and Edith (Myrick) McNett. She was married to Lester Stackhouse for 56 years until he preceded her in death on Nov. 2, 2006.

Lenora graduated from Canton Area Schools in 1950. She retired from West Company, Jersey Shore, in 1991.  She had also been employed by Leader Nursing Home as well as Wheldons, Kelco, Woolrich, and other area sewing factories for many years prior to West Company. She was a member of the Williamsport Seventh-day Adventist Church where she held many offices over the years.  She had conducted the Discover Bible Correspondence School. She also served as a census taker, Judge of Elections, and Nippenose Township tax assessor. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, quilt making, taking walks with her dog, giving Bible studies, volunteering, time with her family, writing and had several short stories published. She was known for her cherry pies, date filled cookies, and carrot cakes.

She is survived by a sister, Deloris Myer of California; and by two daughters, Barbara (Stan) Younkin of Williamsport, and Kay (Frank) Stahl of Allenwood; and step-daughter, Janet (Ian) Hendrick of Preston, England. Her surviving grandchildren are Rick (Terry) Younkin of Jersey Shore; Amy (Peter Simmons) Younkin of Williamsport; McKayla (Kelsey) Bower of Muncy; Johannes Stahl of Harrisburg; Angelik (Michael) Berger of Milton; and step-grandchildren, Steven Hendrick and Abby Stackhouse (Andrew) Hall of England. She had several great-grandchildren including Britney (Cameron Lange)Younkin and Branden Younkin of Williamsport; Lawrence (Brianne) Wallen, Taylor (Tom) Wallen, and Noah (Bree) Wallen of Jersey Shore; Autumn and Amber Simmons of Williamsport;  Myla and MariKay Bower of Muncy; Rylee and Rynda Berger, of Milton; Ashton Stahl and Gabe Rupert of Montgomery; Saint Emerson Stahl of York;  Taylor and Leo Deacon of England; Alex and Caitlin Hendrick of England. There are also five great-great-grandchildren, Ayla Younkin of Williamsport; Sawyer Yeagle, Leighanne and Leland Wallen of Jersey Shore, and Ah’Siah Simmons of Williamsport.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Stanley McNett of Roaring Branch in 2007; sister, Irene Spencer of Grover in 2015; son, Allan Stackhouse of Jersey Shore in 2011; and step-son Frank Stackhouse of England in Feb. 2024.

A private graveside service will be held at the Jersey Shore Cemetery with family and friends and officiated by Richard Fulmer of Williamsport. Contributions may be made towards the  construction completion of the new Williamsport Seventh-day Adventist Church and Mountain View Church School, 305 Fleming Street, S. Williamsport, PA.
