Laura A. (Edwards) Swinehart

Laura A. Swinehart, 90, of Jersey Shore, passed away, Saturday, Nov. 28, 2020.  She was born, April 16, 1930, in Jersey Shore, the daughter of the late Theodore and Jennie (Jerles) Edwards. 

Laura was a 1949 graduate from Jersey Shore High School.  She married Carl D. Swinehart on July 28, 1951; they shared 43 years together before Carl passed away on Feb. 18, 1994. Laura worked as a dispatcher for the Jersey Shore Police Department. She was later employed at Jersey Shore Manor Care Nursing Center, where she enjoyed interacting with the residents; she retired from there in 1995. Laura was member of Comfort Stitchers Knitting/Crocheting group in Jersey Shore and was a member of Phelps Chapel United Methodist Church.  Laura was always there for family and friends to lend a listening ear or a hand to help in any way she could. She had a huge, loving heart which was very evident when Laura took in her sister, Dianne, when Dianne was just a three month old infant and Laura raised her as her own daughter.

Laura is survived by her son, Russell Swinehart (Joan) of Wyomissing, her daughter, Shelly Miller of Jersey Shore; sisters Dianne Larson (Mike) of Montoursville and Ruth Carson of Jersey Shore.  She is also survived by her grandchildren, Nathan, Brianna, Adrianna Swinehart, of Wyomissing, Jennifer Schott (Patrick) of Wyomissing, Brittany Ludwig (Jeffrey) of St. Louis, MO, Caleb Miller (Amanda) of Olean, NY, Jonathan Miller, of Jersey Shore and eight great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Carl, Laura was preceded in death by her companion of many years, Boyd Riggle in March 2020, her brothers Melvin, Vernon, James, Carl “Butch” Edwards and a sister Inez McKean.

Services for Laura will be held Monday, Dec. 7, 2020 at 1:00 PM at Rearick Carpenter Funeral Home, 1002 Allegheny Street, Jersey Shore.  There will be a one hour visitation starting at noon up to the time of the service.  Pastor Larry Siikanen will officiate.  Burial will take place at the Jersey Shore Cemetery.
