John Truax Obituary

John K. Truax, affectionately known as "Santa," peacefully passed away on March 8, 2024, in Jersey Shore. He was born on October 6, 1942, in Jersey Shore, Pennsylvania. John was 81 years old at the time of his passing.

 

John dedicated many years of service to Kellogg’s before retiring in 2005. His interests were varied and included wood working, working on farms, hunting, coaching baseball, Philadelphia Phillies, bowling, and supporting football teams such as the Philadelphia Eagles, Penn State, and Jersey Shore Bulldog football. He also had a great love for trains and actively participated in the Heroes and Horses program. Notably, he portrayed Santa Claus in Jersey Shore for 21 years, bringing joy to many.

 

John was a faithful member of St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jersey Shore and proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, he also served in the Army Reserves for many years. On February 19, 1971, he married the love of his life, Sharon (Green).

 

John will be deeply missed by his family, including his wife Sharon, sons John Jr. and Colby (Emily), daughters Nicole (Will) and Shari, granddaughters Quinn, OceAnn, Ilanna, and Foennix, as well as sisters Joanne Fisher, June Getgen, and Shirley Chapman.

 

He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert L. & Edith Truax, brothers Donald, Lawrence, and Richard Truax, and sisters Catherine Packard, Margaret Homler, Marguerite Johnson, Wanda Letterman, and Marion Young.

 

Services to honor John's life will be held on Friday, March 15, 2024, at the Rearick Carpenter Funeral Home in Jersey Shore. A public viewing will take place from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by a service at 11:00 am officiated by Rev. Dr. Kerry Aucker. Interment will be private.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Heroes & Horses or the American Cancer Society in John's memory. May his legacy of kindness and dedication live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
