Elsie L. Parks, beloved mother, grandmother, and devoted educator, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2023, in Lock Haven at the age of 86. She was born on May 8, 1937, in Jersey Shore, Pennsylvania, to the late Ford W. and Mary “Jane” M. (Thompson) Bonnell.
Elsie dedicated over 30 years of her life to teaching, making a lasting impact on countless young minds. For most of her career, she served as a 4th grade Teacher with the esteemed Jersey Shore Area School District, primarily at Salladasburg Elementary School. Her passion for education shone through in her commitment to her students, ensuring they received a quality education that would shape their futures.
When she wasn't in the classroom, Elsie found solace in the pages of a book. Reading was not only her favorite pastime but also a way for her to broaden her knowledge and escape into different worlds. Her love for literature was evident in the way she encouraged others, young and old, to discover the joy of reading.
Elsie was a faithful member of St. John's Lutheran Church in her hometown of Jersey Shore. Her strong faith guided her throughout her life and provided her with comfort and strength during difficult times.
Elsie is preceded in death by her loving husband, William "Bill" R. Parks, and her sister, Judy Zelinski. She will forever be remembered and deeply missed by her daughters: Sharon Hackenberg (Barry), Penny Parks-Dean (Ken), Wendy Parks (Diane Guse), and Terri Fitzgerald (Bob). Her legacy of love extends to her five cherished grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, who brought incredible joy to her life.
A Memorial service will be held Friday, Nov. 10, from 6:00-8:00 pm at St. John’s Lutheran Church located at 229 South Broad Street, Jersey Shore, PA 17740.
