Vernetta M. Thomas, affectionately known as Netty, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2026, at the age of 96. Born on February 19, 1930 to the late Ira and Floretta (Reighard) Fetzer, she lived a life devoted to her family and community.

Netty dedicated her life to being a homemaker and family caretaker, roles she embraced with love and grace. Her home was a warm haven for her family, where she skillfully balanced the demands of daily life while also nurturing those around her.

Known fondly as the neighborhood babysitter in Salladasburg, Netty enriched the lives of many children and parents alike with her caring nature and generous spirit. She enjoyed crocheting intricate pieces that brought warmth and joy to many. She loved visiting neighbors and cherished the simple pleasures of day trips with her family, creating countless memories along the way.

She is preceded in death by her loving parents, her devoted husband Merle M. Thomas, who departed in 2009, her beloved daughter Susan Byron, her great-great-granddaughter Sage Campbell, and her brother Jack Fetzer.

Vernetta is survived by her son Steven Thomas and his wife Mary; her grandchildren Chris Lehman, Thomas Lehman, Erin Byron, and Nicole Singer; her great-grandchildren Charlotte Rogers, Briar Campbell, and Emily Torsturp; and her great-great-granddaughter Iris Campbell. Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy of love and kindness will continue through her family.

In accordance with her wishes, there will be no public services. She will be laid to rest beside her beloved Merle at Salladasburg Cemetery.
