Ruth L
(Bortz) Frye
September 2, 1934 – March 31, 2025
Ruth L. Frye, 90, of Jersey Shore and formerly of Avis, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2025, at the Williamsport Home. She was born in Limestone Township, Montour County, PA on September 2, 1934, the daughter of the late Ralph E. Bortz and Reva A. Fenstemacher Bortz. Married to Samuel D. Frye, Sr. on February 14, 1953. Samuel died March 29, 1973.
Ruth was employed by Northern Central Bank, formerly the State Bank of Avis. She retired on October 1, 1995, after 28 years of service as manager of the Woodward Branch, Dunnstown.
Ruth enjoyed reading, gardening, and loved to watch the eagle cam. She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Philadelphia Phillies, Philadelphia Eagles, and the Penn State Football games. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially cooking for them.
She helped organize the Avis Cub Scout Troop and was a den mother. She previously served on the March of Dimes Board of Directors in Williamsport and the Community Nursing Board of Directors in Lock Haven.
Ruth is survived by two sons and one daughter: Samuel D. Frye, Jr. and wife Carrie of Bowling Green, VA, Dennis C. Frye and wife Leslie of Battle Ground, WA, and Sandra L. Frye Swartz and husband William of Jersey Mills, PA. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Jeremy Frye and wife Alice, Joseph Frye of Bowling Green, VA, Samuel Frye and wife Nakayo of Vancouver, WA, Misty Frye Palmatier and husband Justin of Jersey Shore, PA, Tyler Frye and Hayden Frye, Julia Martin of Vancouver, WA, and Cory Swartz and wife Tori of Glen Allen, VA; as well as ten great grandchildren: Kendall, Cade, Aowynn, Andrew, Melania, Emma, Tanner, Levi, Brody, and Sutton.
Along with her parents and husband, she is predeceased by her siblings: Stanley Bortz, Kenneth Bortz, Robert Bortz, Mary Umstead, and Evelyn Irwin.
There will be a public viewing 10 – 11 A.M. Friday, April 4, 2025 at Rearick Carpenter Funeral Home, 1002 Allegheny Street, Jersey Shore where the funeral will begin at 11A.M. Burial will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Park, Lock Haven.
