Rita W. (Wolfe) Cunningham, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2026, in Montoursville at the age of 95. Rita was born on July 29, 1930, to the late Hugh and Mildred (Snyder) Wolfe in Woolrich, PA. She married the love of her life, Lawrence F. “Larry/Deke” Cunningham on July 24, 1948, and they spent 75 glorious years together until his passing in August of 2023.
Rita was a lifetime member of the Woolrich United Methodist Church and, through the years, gave in service to the church in many capacities. She most faithfully served by singing soprano in the church choir. Rita, also, dedicated over three decades of her life to Woolrich, Inc., where she worked as a committed utility worker. Her work ethic and dedication were admired by all who knew her.
Beyond her professional life, Rita was a devoted homemaker who found great joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved reading and solving crossword puzzles, often spending quiet afternoons immersed in a good book or challenging her mind with a puzzle. She also sang in the Lock Haven Community Chorus for many years. Above all, Rita cherished the time spent with her family and friends, creating countless memories filled with laughter, lessons and love.
There were many laughs among the family when they gathered regularly at the house in Woolrich, especially on the front porch in the summer. Everyone was welcomed at her house, at any time, because she made her house a “home” where everyone felt included and invited. She also taught her family lessons to last their lifetimes – lessons about honesty, respect, forgiveness, responsibility, putting others first, doing the right thing and being hard-working. However, her greatest lesson was demonstrating how to love. She consistently and generously extended unconditional and self-sacrificing love to all her family, her friends and those she adopted into her family. All her life, she was a shining example of these beautiful qualities.
She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, her husband Lawrence Cunningham, her granddaughter Jennie M. Cunningham, her grandson Todd L. Cunningham and her brother-in-law Ray W. Cunningham.
Rita leaves behind a loving family, including four sons; Lynn F. Cunningham (Rebecca) of Watsontown, Scott H. Cunningham (Bonnie) of Lock Haven, Barry G. Cunningham (Diane) of Jersey Shore, and Reed W. Cunningham of Woolrich, one daughter; Holly M. Pote (Donald) of Linden, six grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, who will forever hold her memory in their hearts. She is also survived by three siblings, Betty Schlesinger, June Cooney (Tom) and William Wolfe and sister-in-law Raymonda Cunningham. Her warmth, kindness, and gentle spirit will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
There will be a public viewing, 9:00-11:00A.M. Saturday, June 13, 2026, at the Woolrich Community United Methodist Church, 1080 Park Avenue, Woolrich. Funeral service will begin at 11:00AM with Pastor William Klebe officiating. Burial will be private in Rest Haven Memorial Park, Lock Haven.
The family will provide the flowers and ask that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Woolrich Community United Methodist Church, 1080 Park Ave., Woolrich, PA 17779.
