AVIS - Lowell E. Ergott, 89, of Avis, passed away, Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at the Susque View Home Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Lock Haven.  Born at home in Avis, December 31, 1927; the son of William and Louise Ergott.  He was married to Lois "Jean" (Reitz), who survives him, April 3, 1947; they shared 69 years of marriage.

After high school, Lowell joined the Coast Guard and served during the WWII era. Lowell had worked for the railroad, he was a machinist and a carpenter; he retired from Lycoming Motors now known as Textron. He was a member of the Avis United Methodist Church. Lowell was a long time member of the Jersey Shore Elks, Jersey Shore American Legion; The Shriners Club and Masonic La Belle Vallee Lodge #232.  He was a lifetime member of the Avis Fire Company.  When Lowell was younger, he learned to play the mandolin and guitar; along with his brothers, he called for square dances at The Hillbilly Haven.  He also played in the String Band for the Shriners in Altoona.  After he retired, Lowell and his wife, Jean, spent their winters in Florida and he would play in the park band.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Daniel (Mary Ellen) of Avis; two grandchildren, Beth (Bob) and Karen (Tom); five great grandchildren, Brittany (Mike), Danielle, Rebecca, Kayla (Mason) and Frankie; five great great grandchildren, Auron, Carter, Cambree, Aubrey and Landen.

Lowell was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Harold, Raymond, and Richard; and two sisters, Alma and Violet.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.  Arrangements are being handled by Rearick Carpenter Funeral Home, Ltd., 1002 Allegheny Street, Jersey Shore.
