Gwendolyn M. Hill, 77, of Jersey Shore passed away, Monday, May 16, 2016 at the Jersey Shore Hospital. Born September 20, 1938 in Shamokin Dam, she was the daughter of the late John W. and Laura C. (Conrad) Bailey. After the passing of her mother, she was adopted at the age of 12 and cared for by Charles Gilbert. She was married for 42 years to the late, James L. Hill, who passed away in 1997.
Gwendolyn was employed for many years by "Wundies" in Williamsport, working side by side with her daughter Kathy. Gwendolyn enjoyed planting and working in her flower garden. She enjoyed cooking and she took a lot of pride and joy sharing the meals she prepared. Family was very important to Gwendolyn and she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
JERSEY SHORE - Gwendolyn is survived by two sons, Steve (Denise) Hill, of Jersey Shore, James (Deborah) Hill, Jr. of Middleburg; two daughters, Kathy (Tom) Koons of Jersey Shore and Brenda Markley of Avis. She also is survived by eight grandchildren and 12 great grand children and there is a great great grandchild on the way. Gwendolyn has a brother, Marlin Bailey, who survives her.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Gwendolyn was preceded in death by three sisters, Marion Walk, Betty Bailey, and Ruth Rutter; she was also predeceased by a grandson, David Markley, Jr.
There will be a public viewing, Friday, May 20, 2016, from 10 am to noon at the Rearick Carpenter Funeral Home Ltd., 1002 Allegheny Street, Jersey Shore. Burial will follow with a graveside service at the Jersey Shore Cemetery with Pastor Helen Learn officiating. The family will provide the flowers and ask that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 1948 E. Third Street, Williamsport, PA 17701.
