AVIS - Gary R. Umstead, Sr., a devoted family man and proud veteran, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2025, in Williamsport (Divine Providence, The Gatehouse), at the age of 86.  Gary was born on March 7, 1939, to the late Russell and Mary (Bortz) Umstead in Montour County, PA.  Gary led a life marked by dedication to his family, country, and community.

Gary honorably served in the United States Marine Corps for over 30 years, exemplifying the values of discipline and service that he carried throughout his life.  Following his military career, he became a respected entrepreneur, owning and operating Umstead Service Center in Lock Haven.  He also worked for Bowersox Truck Sales Inc., where he continued to build meaningful relationships within his professional community.

Outside of work, Gary found joy in simple pleasures.  He adored spending time with his beloved dog, Lady until her passing, and cherished family gatherings and picnics.  An avid fisherman, he often found solace by the water.  His latest favorite pastime was watching golf on TV alongside his cherished wife, Dawn.

Along with his parents, Gary is preceded in death by a brother, Charles Umstead.  He is survived by his loving wife, Dawn (Swartz) Umstead; his son, Gary R. Umstead, Jr. (Gwenith Holmes); his daughter, Kristy (Christian) Cayer; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.  He also leaves behind his brother, Russel (Linda) Umstead of Lock Haven, and sisters, Shirley Walker, Nancy (Anthony) Kolwalski, and Patricia (Jay) Fulkrod all of Jersey Shore.

In keeping with Gary's wishes, services will be held at the convenience of the family.  Gary will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his loved ones, his faithful service to his country, and the warmth he brought into the lives of those around him.
