Charles "Chas" E. Umstead Sr., 82, of Jersey Shore, died Dec. 22, 2016.
Born Oct. 5, 1934, in Washingtonville, he was the son of Russell W. and Mary E. Bortz Umstead. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice, with whom he shared 49 years of marriage.
He was a graduate of Jersey Shore Area High School and was employed for many years by Cohick Brothers and Thompson & Sons.
He is survived by his two sons, Charles E. Jr., of Antes Fort and Clarence R., of Jersey Shore; his daughter and son-in-law, Amber L. and Robert Miller, of Lafayette, La.; his grandchildren, Dana, Shawn, Stacey, Kelsey, Lacey, Erica, Simon and Thea; his great-grandchildren, Destiny, Alana, Cooper and Nolan; his two brothers, Gary and Russel; his three sisters, Shirley Walker, Nancy Kowalski and Patricia Fulkrod; several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Rearick-Carpenter Funeral Home, 1002 Allegheny St., Jersey Shore, on Wednesday, Dec. 28 at 11 a.m. Visitation will be take place prior to the service from 9-11 a.m. Internment will be in the Jersey Shore Cemetery.
Flowers will be provided by the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Laurel Unit Activity Fund, ManorCare, 1008 Thompson St., Jersey Shore, PA 17740.
Charles' family would like to extend their deep appreciation to the staff of the Laurel Unit for the kind and loving care they extended to Charles while he was a resident.
