Catherine L. Packard, 84, of Jersey Shore passed away, Sat. Nov. 5, 2016, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Avis on June 10, 1932, the daughter of the late Robert L. and Edith (Nichols) Truax. Catherine graduated from the Jersey Shore Senior High School Class of 1950. On August 16, 1951 she married Richard Packard and they shared 58 Years of marriage until he passed away in 2009.
Being a Navy wife, Catherine was very active in the Navy Wives group called The USS Sally Wives and the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary. Catherine and her husband were known as snowbirds in their retired years that traveled extensively, visiting Germany and many other places; they both enjoyed traveling and at one time owned their own plane. Catherine loved to go bowling, riding golf carts and putting together puzzles. Most of all, Catherine enjoyed being a homemaker and raising her children, visits from her grandchildren and spending time with her large family.
Catherine is survived by 6 children; Mike (Lori) of Avis, Candy of Pensacola, FL, Ronald (Julie) , Tom (Terry) both of Jersey Shore, Fred of Flemington, and Donna of South Williamsport; 2 brothers Lawrence and John Truax, 4 sisters, Joanne Fisher, Wanda Letterman, June Getgen, and Shirley Chapman; 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, husband and 2 brothers Rich and Donald Truax, 3 sisters Margarite Welshans, Margaret Johnson and Marion Young, 4 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
A Tribute of Catherine's life will be held at Rearick Carpenter Funeral Home, 1002 Allegheny Street, Jersey Shore Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2016 starting with a public viewing 6:00-7:30 pm and a Memorial Service at 7:30 pm. Pastor Ryan Reigh of Family Worship Center in Bloomsburg will officiate.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to "Haiti Mission Trip" c/o Rose Dibble, 60 Don Moore Lane, Mansfield, PA 16983.
