SOUTH AVIS - Bertha M. Maurey, 88, of South Avis, passed away Saturday, August 13, 2016 at Susqueview Nursing Home in Lock Haven.  She was born in South Avis, July 28, 1928, the daughter of Albert W. and Florence H. (Myers) Brooks.  Bertha was married to Lynn E. Maurey, they shared over 50 years of marriage before he passed away January 12, 2000.

Bertha was a housewife who enjoyed cooking, and gardening.  She enjoyed spending time with her family at picnics and parties, she had a special place in her heart for her dogs; she was very fond of dachshunds.  Bertha was a member of the Lycoming Christian Church.

Bertha is survived by her sister, Betty B. Schleif of Loyalsock, 3 nieces, Shelly Carpenter, Cindy (Dave) Waltz, Pam Welshans, 1 nephew, Shawn Brooks and several great nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Bertha was preceded in death by a brother Albert L. Brooks.

A Memorial service will be held Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at 10 am at Rearick Carpenter Funeral Home, 1002 Allegheny Street, Jersey Shore.  Pastor Ron Savits will officiate.  Burial will follow in the Jersey Shore Cemetery.
