Thomas E. Eck

Thomas E. Eck, 81, of Nippenose Valley passed away Monday, February 19, 2018 at Valley View Center in Montoursville.

He was born March 31, 1936 in Pine Woods, Nippenose Valley a son of Thomas and Helen (Kimmick) Eck.  He graduated from Jersey Shore High School in 1954 and was Class Treasurer.  During the 1950’s  he was a U. S. Army veteran.  He married the former Janet Welshans December 27, 1958 and she survives.

Tom and Raymond Eck formed Eck’s Agway in Jersey Shore in the spring of 1961.  He retired in 2015.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Bastress and a member of the Knights of Columbus.  He was treasurer of the Oval-Oriole water authority and a former member of the National Guard.  Tom enjoyed golfing and baseball.

Besides his wife of 59 years Janet, he is further survived by a son Gregory T. Eck (Debby) of Jersey Shore and a daughter Jennifer E. Kolk (Mike) of Harrisburg.  Four grandchildren: Megan Cummings (Jared), Seth Eck, and Kendall and Kristopher Kolk, two sisters; Ellen Brownlee of Williamsport and Margie Searer of Buffalo, NY. He was predeceased by two sisters; Jeanne Lehman and Marie Lehman and a brother, Dan Eck.

Tom’s life Tribute service will be held at noon Friday, Feb. 23, 2018 at the Rearick-Carpenter Funeral Home, 1002 Allegheny St., Jersey Shore with his Priest Rev. Bert Kozen officiating. Burial will follow in Oval Cemetery.  Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home Friday from 10am until noon.  His family will provide the flowers and suggest contributions be made to either St. Jude's Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org) 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or the charity of your choice.
