JERSEY SHORE - Betty Jane Snyder, 92, passed away Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at Manor Care, Jersey Shore.
Betty was born on September 1, 1926 in Oval and was the daughter of the late Roy H. and Fay (Bixler) Snyder. She graduated from Jersey Shore High School and worked at C A Reed Manufacturing for 47 years.
Betty was a lifetime member of the Oval United Methodist Church where she had taught Sunday School since the age of 13. She had also held various positions and was very involved in the entire church. She was the chairperson for the Oval Cemetery Association, where along with her family, she worked at getting the cemetery back in order after it had fallen into bad condition. Betty also had taken over her father’s apple orchard and sold the apples, cider and apple butter well into her later years. Betty was commonly known as “Aunt Betty” to the entire community, especially being like a motherly figure to many of the neighbor children for many years.
Betty is survived by one sister; Muriel Diefferbacher of Duboistown, nieces and nephews; A. Kent Snyder (Cindy) of Montoursville, Susan Stopper (Charlie) of Bastress, Gordon Diefferbacher (Cherry) of Cogan Station, Eleanor Engle (John) of Collinsville, Gary Snyder (Deborah) of Jersey Shore and Betsy Baker (Larry) of Florida, 11 great nieces and nephews and 14 great-great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother; Lynn Snyder (Louella) and one great-great nephew.
There will be a public viewing 6:30 – 9:00 p.m. Friday, November 30, 2018 at the Rearick-Carpenter Funeral Home, 1002 Allegheny St., Jersey Shore. There will be another viewing 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. Saturday, December 1, 2018 at the Oval United Methodist Church, 6796 PA-44, Jersey Shore, PA 17740 where the funeral will begin at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Wanda Minnick Officiating. Burial will follow in Oval Cemetery.
