Zachary John Pittenger

AVIS - Zachary J. Pittenger, 27, of both Avis and Antes Fort, passed away Saturday evening April 22, 2017, in the Jersey Shore Hospital as a result of injuries sustained from a vehicle accident earlier near Larryville, Pa.
He was born in Williamsport, June 20, 1989, a son of Kenneth and Sherry Baney Pittenger.  He was a 2007 graduate of Jersey Shore High School and received his Associate’s Degree in Business Management and the Graduated in 2012 from Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science Class No. 145 and received his Life Celebrant Certification in 2016. He was a member of the Jersey Shore Lions Club where he was Tail Twister and Lions Club chicken barbecue "Mr. Chicken." He was a member of the Jersey Shore B.P.O.E Lodge No. 1057 and a member of the LaBelle Vallee Masonic Lodge No. 232, Jersey Shore. Zach has worked nearly half of his young 27 years. Early in his life he was employed at the Slate Run Store at age 14 and at 15 began working at the former Bi-Lo store in Jersey Shore where he worked his position up to Assistant Manager of Lingles.  On his 18th birthday he began his quest to become a funeral director and became employed as a staff member at Rearick-Carpenter Funeral Home. He was currently the Pennsylvania Licensed Supervisor at the Maneval-Allen Redmond Funeral Home in Williamsport and Funeral Director at Rearick-Carpenter Funeral Home of Jersey Shore. He was currently in the process of fulfilling his obligation to finish basic training to become a U.S. Army Reservist. Zach enjoyed planting and gardening along with fishing and loved hunting and the closeness of his wife and family especially his son Sylus.
His survivors include his wife the former Kayla Strunk whom he married just this past December 29, 2016. He is further survived by his son, Sylus K.J. Pittenger and his parents, Sherry and Ken Pittenger of Antes Fort and his parents-in-law, Kent and Kim Strunk of Avis; 2 sisters, Jamie (Mark) Lamey and Stephanie (Larry) Wallen; grandparents, Doris Baney, Alvin C Pittenger, Jan Cloen, Ila Welker, Newt and Virginia Smith and Robert and Connie Strunk. Sister-in-laws, Kira Strunk Dicato and Krista Strunk. Nieces and nephews, Isaiah, Aubree, Seneca, Peyton, Elijah and Nora along with Aunts and Uncles.
Zach’s Life Celebration and Life Tribute will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 29, 2017, at Crossroads Community Church 1454 S. Rt. 44 Hwy., Jersey Shore, with his Pastor John Phillips officiating.  Public visitation will be held at the Church on Friday, April 28, 2017, from 5-­8 p.m. and again on Saturday from 9:30­-10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Jersey Shore Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Sylus K.J.
