Lavina Jackson, of Jersey Shore, was called home on Jan. 21, 2019 at the age of 100 years. She was born Lavina Williams in Girard, OH, on March 23, 1918 to the late Melvin and Irene (Shaffer) Williams.
Lavina attended Flower Hospital School of Nursing in Toledo, OH, graduating as an RN in 1946. After this she attended Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, IL. Lavina joined Sudan Interior Mission in 1951 and sailed for Nigeria aboard a freighter in 1952 to begin a 30 year career as a missionary. While in Nigeria, she met her husband Thadd Jackson, married, and raised her family. Lavina was known for her quiet patience and her courageous spirit.
Lavina is survived by her three daughters, Jane (Lloyd) Hopkins, Rebecca (Charlie Cohick) Seaman, and Elizabeth (Paul) Quinn. Her grandchildren are Jordan Martin, Ben Seaman, Tyler Quinn and Dylan Quinn. She has two great grandchildren, Liam Martin and Aerith Seaman.
She was preceded in death by her husband Thadd Jackson and her sister Pearl Whitney.
We will celebrate Lavina’s life on Fri., Jan. 25, 2019 at 11 AM from Fairplay Gospel Fellowship Church, 1625 Walnut Street, Jersey Shore, with Pastor Michael Guiswite officiating. Visitation will be 10 am to 11 am at the church prior to the service.
